California Trip: Sage Family Reunion

A month and a half later and I'm STILL blogging about our trip to California! I've been putting this one off because I knew the pictures would be plentiful, and I just haven't been motivated to sort through and re-size and upload them all- until now. So here ya go- a gazillion more pictures from our trip! (The other day we received a CD containing LOTS more photos taken at the reunion by other family members, so I'm swiping a few of those, too.)

The main reason for our trip to California was so that we could attend the Sage Family Reunion being held at Aaron's aunt Betty's house in Newark. This reunion consisted of the posterity and other loved ones of Barbara and Ted Sage (Aaron's maternal grandparents).

The reunion was technically all weekend, so on Friday evening we came down from Grandma Anderson's for a quick visit with those who were already there.

Somebody caught Aaron and I playing with our iPods.









Saturday was the big shin-dig. The kids spent a lot of time across the street at the elementary school's play ground (which was very convenient since there were LOTS of kids!).





This was hilarious. Aaron's Dad, Dave, challenged him to a pull-up contest.



It didn't last long. :)

This is Aaron's brother, Justin, and his youngest daughter, Jovial. I don't know what he's doing here, but it's funny.



The kids had plenty to keep them busy- crafts, toys, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, coloring pages and of course, other kids!





We had a sort of "Field Day" at the school later in the day.

Treat bags were distributed to all of the kids...

...then balloons filled with candy were passed out. Pyper had a hard time covering her ears and popping balloons at the same time.

And Finnley made friends everywhere he went.

The adult balloon toss was fun to watch.

Dave always comes up with a way to have an edge on everyone else. :)






Pyper and cousin Vivien did really well in the kid balloon toss!





Hakan and cousin Seth were partners for the kid balloon toss. (I don't know what the heck he's doing right here, though.)

This face kills me. The balloon busted the first time he tossed it, and it breaks my heart because he looks like he thinks he just did something really, really wrong.

After that, they just could not risk tossing it anymore.

They just kept handing it back and forth to each other and nothing anyone could say would convince them to try tossing it again. I. Was. Dying.

Of course the pinata was a big hit. *sorry about the bad pun*

















The Watermelon Pig



The reunion had a sports theme, so everyone was asked to wear their favorite team shirts. Since we're not really sports fans, we decided to just represent our local team- Boise State University Broncos.

Here's the Hillgrove crew that was able to come.

And the lovely lady in the plain white shirt in the center is our matriarch, Barbara (known to my kids as Grandma Bobbie) Sage.

We had such a fantastic time! Everything was so well planned and carried out, I felt a little guilty that all I had to do was show up, have fun and relax. I'm really looking forward to the next one in two years!!
